MAPS works one-on-one with growers to develop property-specific Nutrient Management Plans and implement the Agtrix Farming program to determine nitrogen and phosphorus budgets and manage the appropriate amount of fertiliser that can be applied on-farm.
This includes detailed advice that can be applied practically, a system that makes record keeping easier, and incentives to improve equipment. The project helps growers reduce their costs by improving nutrient and chemical efficiency, as well as contributing to reducing the amount of dissolved inorganic nitrogen and pesticides that run off farms, improving the regional water quality.
MAPS is the main provider of sugarcane advice and extension for Mackay Sugar farmers. We work on most issues including: pests, diseases, weeds, varieties, nutrition, irrigation and harvesting.
MAPS mission is to enhance the profitability and sustainability of the sugar industry through innovative productivity programs and plant protection services.
